John T Walkington, Principal

John Walkington, PrincipalJohn qualified in 1991, joined Pengillys in 1997 and became a Principal in November 2001. He is experienced in a number of legal fields but for some years now has specialised in Family law. He also undertakes some Civil Litigation and Probate.

John is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel, The Law Society's Family Law Panel and Resolution, formerly The Solicitors Family Law Association.

John appears regularly in a number of courts including the Family Proceedings Court, the County Court and High Court.  In a recent case he has dealt with in the Court of Appeal , namely re G (Special Guardianship Order) [2010] EWCA Civ 300, the court confirmed the proper test to apply to an application for leave to apply for discharge or variation of a special guardianship order.


He has a range of interests outside work. He is a School Governor and a member of the Lawyer's Christian Fellowship.

John is also a committed accredited collaborative practitioner and is an accredited SPC mediator.

Work areas:
Family law, including divorce, separation, domestic violence, access and custody, care, abduction, special guardianship/adoption, living together agreements, pre-nuptial agreements and equitable co-ownership, domestic violence and probate.  Mediation, both civil disputes and family disputes.
