Powers of Attorney
You can plan now for what may happen in the future, even many years ahead. A Power of Attorney is a deed that specifies who you appoint to look after your financial affairs and assets. Generally, a family member or close and trusted friend, together with your solicitor are appointed.
A general Power of Attorney will usually be for immediate use but can continue up until the donor becomes incapable. For a Power of Attorney that continues even after mental incapacity you will need a Lasting Power of Attorney.
You can also have a Lasting Power of Attorney for health and welfare to enable your named attorneys to make personal decisions for you should you ever lose capacity.
Pengillys have helped hundreds of clients make Powers of Attorney and we consistently see the benefits and relief that they can bring to individuals and their families.
The deed can be very flexible but ultimately gives you control and reassurance.
You should consider drawing up a Power of Attorney at any stage in life, but particularly if you have a business or are nearing retirement or regularly undertake dangerous work or sports.
