Marriage Age Increase

The minimum age in England and Wales for a legal marriage or civil partnership is now 18. The Marriage and Civil Partnership (Minimum Age) Act 2022 does not allow for parental consent.

Anyone who ‘causes’ a marriage or civil partnership in breach of the new law could face up to seven years’ imprisonment and any purported union will be void.
